Yas!! Finally a blog on reviewing yarn.
First things first. It is World Gratitude Day as I'm writing down this blog and I have so much gratitude for this opportunity by Ganga Acrowools. It just changed my perspective of our Indian yarn community! Want to know why?
I had always been sad about how, like most things, we are a little behind than the West World. Our yarn community is as creative as it can be, even more so.. But we never had many opportunities to showcase ourselves. But with this collaboration and the way they are presenting their new yarn varieties; things are finally looking up for our yarn industry!
So, without any more comparison or sulking, may I present to you my next most favourite yarn!!
Olivia Double Knit Yarn
FIRST IMPRESSION
So my first impression was obviously of excitement. I asked for these three colours and they were popping out of the package.
I'm being too dramatic, I know. But you cannot deny the brightness of these yarns. I already had a project in mind for these colours and as soon as my mother brought me the package, I wanted to get them on my hook. Pretty good for a first impression, I'd say.
So I'll say it right here that I love this yarn and you should buy it from Amazon here or from Ganga Acrowools' website here.
QUALITY
The quality is excellent and it's not like your every day acrylic. Take a look at the table below for all the specifications.
Texture: This yarn is as smooth to work with as it is beautiful. You cannot compare it with any other acrylic yarns as they are usually on the squishier side. But it is a PURE DK weight yarn because of that texture, which means you can use a 3.5 mm to 5 mm crochet hook/ knitting needles with it.
Pilling: As long as you abide by the recommended care instructions, it should not pill. I haven't seen any signs of fuzz so far.
PRICE
For a yarn so different and true to its name (Double Knit yarn, not Olive Tree duh!), I think it is worth the price. I loved the quantity of yarn I held in my hand with just one ball and we've already covered quality.
GAUGE
The most important thing to keep in mind for a type of yarn is the gauge as it determines the amount of yarn and time used to make a project.
And it is clearly mentioned on the label.
LOOK IN A PROJECT
I used this 100% acrylic yarn to make the Stella Top by @mgypsy.ph and it looked awh-some. Since, it's a pure DK yarn, it worked up pretty quickly. Have a look at this delicious knitting swatch posted by @gangaacrowools on their Instagram handle.
And here is a click of my project.
BLOCKING
Again, its texture is a bit stiffer than usual acrylic yarns. So, it didn't curl in my crochet project. But if you like to finish your projects properly, you can use the wet blocking method. It is the most suitable method for synthetic yarns and also, the easiest.
CONS
The only con for me so far is, wait for it... yarn barf! If, like me, you like center-pull yarn balls and cakes then these balls can be a little challenging at first.
But let me tell you that a 100g yarn ball is a lot, guys. The yarn is stuffed inside the ball and it's only fair that some of it is tangled in the middle. I'd suggest to be a little patient and as soon as the ball loosens, it will work just fine for you!
Now, come on! Give this review a review, lol! Comment 1 to 5 stars below and tell me how much you liked the blog. Was it thorough enough? Did I cover everything? Even better; share a screenshot of this blog on your Instagram Stories and give your comments over there!
You know I'll always love you for it.
